The arms gallery at the Musée de Cluny

Claude Pratt (1860-1935) was a British painter best known for his "ténières" and other genre scenes set in interiors.

The view he provided of the arms gallery at the Musée de Cluny in 1883 reflects a now-lost museum display style. The general design of the presentation, which mixed objects of different types and techniques in an extremely dense display, has now given way to a more restrained presentation, and most of the works visible in the painting are, with the notable exception of the two Bohemian pavilions, presented at the National Museum of the Renaissance in Ecouen, created in 1977.

The staircase from the Court of Auditors was also dismantled and transferred to Ecouen.
