Late Middle Ages

This mitre, which comes from the embroidered mitre Cl. 12923 from the treasure of the Sainte-Chapelle, also depicts religious scenes in an architectural setting, and a bishop praying before the Virgin and Child on the fanons.

But its technique is very different: it is painted on silk in India ink using the "grisaille" painting technique. The simple black decoration on a white background and the iconography (the Entombment and Resurrection) lead one to suppose that this is a mitre for mourning or Lent.
