The inscription S TIMOTEVS MARTYR placed in a circular arc above the figure identifies Saint Timothy, a disciple of Saint Paul. In honour of his legend, it is adorned with a martyr's palm.
The presentation lacks any monumental character, and depth. Emphasis was placed on certain small ornamental details, such as the golden trims, here finely "enlevé" or done in relief, the ermine of the coat, the hair curls, the wide scrollwork border.
This small panel comes from the former abbey church of Neuwiller-les-Saverne, which was a pilgrimage church, and more specifically from the eastern chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian.
