The Book of Hours was intended for laypeople wishing to include the times of monastic prayers in their daily lives. As this work is very small, and was therefore easy to transport, it was probably of interest to an active man.

It is decorated with five full-page illuminations, among which two scenes stand out, a scene of David facing the angel of punishment and a scene of Death pointing its arrow at the door of the dying person.

The ensemble reflects the climate of the 1480s when the citizens of Troyes, enamoured with moral literature, preferred to commission artists from the capital.
