Statuette-reliquary (Saint Anne holds the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus)
Description
There is a long inscription on the back of this reliquary statue. It states that Hans Greiff made the work for Anna Hofmann, the wife of the town's treasurer in Ingolstadt in 1472. The price is also indicated.
The Saint holds the Virgin and Child on her knees, carrying a small reliquary casket. The devotion to Saint Anne, along with her daughter and grandson, was widespread in the Germanic countries.
This figurine, created for wealthy members of the bourgeoisie, was intended for private devotion.
