Orphrey Band: Saints
Description
This embroidery, showcasing a late Gothic style, depicts three saints positioned beneath canopies. It likely adorned a chasuble.
This orphrey band, which probably decorated a chasuble, features three superimposed saints. Placed in niches beneath canopies, from top to bottom, they are: Saint Peter (holding a large key), Saint Philip (holding a cross), and a saint bearing a lance (either Thomas or Matthias).
The canopies consist of a hexagonal crenellated structure bristling with turrets and topped with a large dome. At the summit of each turret, a square red velvet banner floats.
This embroidery is characterized by a late Gothic aesthetic, while its vibrant and contrasting colors suggest Spanish influence.
