References to animals are numerous in medieval art. A true scenic and musical fresco, this Bestiary breathes life back into this singular imagination by appealing to both the eye and the ear. Through a repertoire from 13th and 14th-century Southern Europe, ranging from Cantigas de Santa María to caccie, both domestic and fantastic animals take part in sometimes extraordinary tales, where the spirit of the marvelous is never far away.
Beyond the adventures told, these texts and their music fascinate us by what they reveal about the beliefs of men and women of the past and their relationship with the animal world.
