Lions and chimerical animals (casket)
Description
This casket features a pewter plate decorated with eight circles enclosing an animal. From left to right and from top to bottom, we can see: a crowned griffin, a crowned lion, a crowned dragon, a crowned eagle, a female centaur, a centaur, another crowned lion, and finally a deer.
All are facing to the right, except for the centaur and the deer, which are facing to the left.
All the circles form a lattice pattern with lines that resemble floral motifs, in which stones seem to have been set at one time. A thin frieze borders the whole piece.
