Targeted mediation

Adapt to all audiences
The mission of the Musée de Cluny is to welcome all visitors, in their diversity and adopt an inclusive approach. Various options are available to support individuals based on their needs and preferences. These proposals complement the cultural offerings available to everyone.

Each year, the National Museum of the Middle Ages participates in or manages artistic and cultural education projects, particularly for schoolchildren. These tailored projects also help to engage with audiences who are distanced from culture.

Cultural twinning with the town of Sartrouville

Since September 2023, a cultural twinning project has connected the National Museum of the Middle Ages with the town of Sartrouville (Yvelines), under the authority of the Prefecture of Île-de-France.  This initiative has helped to forge close ties with the city’s priority neighbourhoods. It aims to tackle inequalities in access to culture and to strengthen community cohesion, and is structured around four main areas:

  • A programme of local workshops and tours organised in collaboration with local cultural organisations for individual visitors,
  • A ‘citizenship’ strand comprising projects related to concepts such as otherness, prejudice, identity, etc.,
  • Arts and cultural education initiatives (EAC : "Éducation artistique et culturelle"),
  • A vocational component designed to encourage students to explore careers in the museum sector.

In 2023–2024, 65 initiatives were carried out in collaboration with around 20 partners, benefiting 1,115 people.

For visitors with disabilities

Particular attention is paid to visitors with disabilities. The modernisation work completed in 2022 made the entire museum accessible to people with reduced mobility. Dedicated mediation tools are also being developed for other disabilities.

The museum hopes to obtain the Tourism & Disability label soon.
