Case : Attack on the castle of love

Acquired by the Musée de Cluny in 2007, this secular case depicts a series of scenes based on courtly love.

On the lid, the attack on the castle is represented allegorically, with the ladies shooting flowers in the place of arrows while a tournament depicts a romantic joust.

The scenes on the sides illustrate a few famous episodes from tales of chivalry, such as Lancelot crossing the sword bridge and Tristan and Iseult at the fountain.

A work of major interest for heritage acquired in 2007 by the French state for the Musée de Cluny thanks to the patronage of Groupama and with the support of the Society of Friends of the Musée de Cluny.
